Rec & P.E. offers a variety of camping, watercraft, lawn games and sports equipment to the Duke Community for short or long-term rental periods. Rentals are available to individuals or for larger groups. No Membership is required to rent this equipment though individuals with a Rec & P.E. Membership are eligible for discounted rates. There is also a selection of free equipment available to Rec & P.E. Members for use at our various facilities, noted at the bottom of the page.
Individual Equipment Rentals
Individual equipment rentals are open to anyone in the Duke Community, including students, faculty, staff, and alumni. Duke Rec & P.E. members receive a discount on individual equipment rentals.
Camping equipment rentals such as tents, sleeping bags, stoves, and backpacks are facilitated at the Climbing Wall at Wilson Recreation Center.
To rent camping equipment as an individual:
- Submit Rental Request Form at least 3 business days before the desired pick up date.
- Receive confirmation of your equipment reservation from MyRec.
- Pick up equipment at the Wilson Recreation Center Climbing Wall during operating hours.
- Pay for your rental at pick-up with a credit card, check, or your Duke Flex Account.
A Note on Watercraft Rentals
Watercraft rentals will take place during the summer when the Outdoor Adventures rental desk is open.
Watercraft rentals, including canoe, surfboard, and stand up paddleboard, take place at Wilson Recreation Center in Card Lot. Rental includes straps, pads, and guidance to secure watercraft to your vehicle, but it is the renter's responsibility to properly secure all paddling equipment for transportation.
To rent watercraft as an individual:
- Submit Rental Request Form at least 3 business days before the desired pick up date.
- Receive confirmation of your equipment reservation and invoice for payment from MyRec.
- Complete payment at the Climbing Wall Equipment Desk.
- Schedule a pick-up time with the Outdoor Adventures staff.
- Pick up equipment at Wilson Recreation Center during open hours of the equipment desk.
Sport equipment, such as pickleball sets, soccer balls, footballs, and frisbees, can be rented for multi-day use and are facilitated at the Climbing Wall at Wilson Recreation Center.
To rent sport equipment as an individual:
- Submit Rental Request Form at least 3 business days before the desired pick up date.
- Receive confirmation of your equipment reservation from MyRec.
- Pick up equipment at the Wilson Recreation Center Climbing Wall during operating hours.
- Pay for your rental at pick-up with a credit card, check, or your Duke Flex Account.
Group Equipment Rentals
A Note on Group Rentals
Watercraft rentals are currently paused for groups until further notice. Updates will be shared here and through our Monthly Member Email.
Duke-affiliated & non-affiliated groups can rent camping, watercraft, lawn games, and sport equipment for their events and organizations. Group rentals are charged a flat rate per week and requests should be submitted at least 2 weeks before the requested pick-up date.
Group equipment rentals are facilitated at the Wilson Recreation Center. Payments accepted are credit card, check and fund transfer.
K-Ville Tenting Rentals
Outdoor Adventures rents tents to K-Ville for both the Graduate Campout and Undergraduate Black/Blue/White Tenting periods! To rent from us, please fill out our Equipment Rental Request form and select "K-Ville/Grad Campout" as your trip type.
- Three sizes of tents are available: 4-person, 5-person, and 6-person
- All tents will cost a flat rate of $20/week

If damage to the tent exceeds more than 50% of the tent's usability or cost, you will buy the tent from us at a reduced rate. We hope you will rent from us to support Duke Basketball! Tents are available on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Free Equipment Check-Out
Rec & P.E. Members have access to a wide range of standard aquatic, fitness and sport equipment while visiting the recreation centers. These items are free of charge but must be returned prior to the end of your visit to avoid additional charges. To check out one of the items below, present your ID to the Front Desk or Weight Room Desk of either facility, or the equipment will be provided within the program space.

Ask for these items while on the pool deck at either Taishoff Aquatics Pavilion or Brodie Aquatics Center:

The equipment in Wilson’s Group Fitness closet, located between the two multipurpose rooms, is available for Members to use. The equipment can only be used inside the multipurpose rooms and is not permitted to leave those designated spaces. Please wipe down and return all equipment to its proper places. If equipment is damaged, please report it to the front desk. Listed below are some of the available equipment.
