As a member of Duke Rec & P.E., you have exclusive use of both on-campus recreation facilities and access to all of its in-person and virtual programs. Your membership is your ticket to the many ways Duke Rec & P.E. can help your overall wellbeing and provide opportunities to create community while being active. Enrollment is open throughout the year and is available to Duke Affiliates such as Faculty, Staff, Alumni, Emeritus, and Visiting Scholars, as well as Student and Affiliate families.

Membership Dates

  • Annual: July 1, 2022 - June 30, 2023
  • Fall Semester: TBD
  • Spring Semester: January 2 - May 7, 2023
  • Summer Term: May 8 - August 13, 2023
  • Monthly: Valid 30 days from the effective date selected at the time of purchase.

Membership Eligibility

Instructions for purchasing Memberships varies by elgibility. View instructions and starting rates within each description below. Purchase of all Memberships and Guest Passes occurs on MyRec.

    Access dates for each semester are as follows:

    • Fall: Mid-August through December 30
    • Spring: January 2 - June 30
    Undergraduate Students

    All undergraduate students should be assessed a Recreation Fee through their Bursar Account at the start of each academic semester. This fee grants access to recreation facilities, programs, services and digital resources automatically once their Bursar Bill has been paid. .

    If undergraduate students do not see this fee in their Bursar Account, they should reach out to the Bursar's Office directly to inquire further. Undergraduate students should never purchase a Membership out of pocket through MyRec unless explicitly instructed to do so by Rec & P.E.

      Graduate & Professional Students

      Graduate and Professional students in years 1 - 5 should be assessed a Recreation Fee through their Bursar Account at the start of each academic semester. This fee grants access to recreation facilities, programs, services and digital resources automatically once their Bursar Bill has been paid. 

      Ph.D. students in years 6+ who wish to have the Recreation Fee assessed to them should utilize the opt-in button on DukeHub to have the fee applied to their Bursar Account.

      Graduate and Professional students should never purchase a Membership out of pocket through MyRec unless explicitly instructed to do so by Rec & P.E.

      Starting prices are noted below and will prorate throughout the term. Prorated prices will self-reflect in MyRec.

      Purchase Instructions
      1. Log onto the MyRec Portal using your NetID and password.
      2. Click 'Become a Member'.
      3. Select the membership you would like to purchase.
      4. Scroll below and next to the "Select Duration" click on the grey bar noting the duration of your membership. The bar will turn blue after your selection.
      5. Notice the starting date, end date, and price of membership.
        NOTE: Price may prorate for Semester or Annual memberships depending on date of purchase. Monthly Memberships do not prorate.
      6. Click ADD TO CART.
      7. Read and sign the Waivers.
        1. After reading the waiver, click on the grey area to open the Signature Box.
        2. Sign and click SAVE.
        3. Click SIGN NOW.
      8. Read and acknowledge the Fitness Warning and Assumption of Risk notice.
      9. Click Checkout to finalize the process and pay through Duke's eCommerce site.

      Duke Alumni are able to utilize their Duke Alumni Association credentials to purchase a Rec & P.E. Membership. Starting prices are noted below and will prorate throughout the term. Prorated prices will self-reflect in MyRec.

      Purchase Instructions
      1. Visit the Duke Alumni website, click on 'Register/Sign In' button on the top right, and register to create a OneLink account. This OneLink account will provide you access to the MyRec Portal to purchase and register for Duke Rec & P.E. memberships, programs and services.
      2. Visit our Rec Grouper Group and log with your OneLink Account.
      3. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click JOIN.
      4. Wait 5 minutes for the information to be validated in our systems.
      5. Log onto the MyRec Portal with your newly established OneLink.
      6. Click 'Become a Member'.
      7. Select the membership you would like to purchase.
      8. Scroll below and next to the "Select Duration" click on the grey bar noting the duration of your membership. The bar will turn blue after your selection.
      9. Notice the starting date, end date, and price of membership.

      Note on Spouse & Family Memberships

      Spouses and families of Duke affiliates are eligible for a Rec & P.E. Membership, which can be purchased for them by their affiliate through MyRec. All Memberships must coincide with the duration of the Duke affiliate's Membership they are sponsored by.

      A Family Membership consists of the Duke employee/student, their spouse/partner & two dependents ages 10-26. Please review our facility age limitations prior to purchase.

      Purchase Instructions

      The Duke University employee/enrolled student will need to first visit the OIT Sponsored Accounts website to register their spouse and/or dependents via the following steps:

      1. Once logged in, underneath “Guest (Affiliate) Accounts”, select the option “Request a new guest account for a non-Duke user."
        NOTE: You will need to submit a separate form for each spouse and/or family member.
      2. Select Sponsor: The Duke University employee/enrolled student will be the selected sponsor.
      3. Select Guest Account Type: Choose 'Spouse/Sponsor' or 'Child'.
      4. Select Guest Services: Check the box reading 'DukeCard'.
        NOTE: As noted above, spouses and dependents will use the MyRec Mobile App to access the facility as you will not be given a physical DukeCard.
      5. Select Card Type: Select 'University Default' from the drop-down menu.
      6. Department Name: 'Rec & P.E.'
      7. Card Payment Method: Select 'Sponsored Guest'.
      8. Account Details: Add the non-Duke email address of the spouse or family member the request is for.
      9. Account purpose: 'Recreation Center Access'.
      10. Will the guest be compensated directly by Duke?: Select 'No'.
      11. Do you intend for guests to be directly on site?: Select 'Yes'.
      12. Sponsorship Policies: Agree to terms and conditions.
      13. Attest.

      Once you have created sponsored accounts for each of your spouses and family members, visit the MyRec Portal to purchase memberships for yourself and your family via the following steps:

      1. Log into the MyRec Portal with your NetID and password.
      2. Select “Become a Member”.
      3. Choose the duration of membership you would like to purchase.
      4. Email the Memberships inbox to include each person’s Name, Last Name, Date of Birth, NetID, and email. This information will be given to the guest email address in the confirmation email following _____. The Coordinator of Member Services will manually add the Family Membership to the Duke-sponsored account.
      5. Download the MyRec Mobile app to login as you will not be given a physical Duke Identification Card.
        NOTE: If you or your dependent do not have a smartphone or are unable to download the MyRec Mobile App, reach out to the Memberships inbox.

      Digital Library

      Those within and outside of the Duke Community are eligible to access our Digital Library of Group Fitness Classes for a minimal fee each semester.

      The Digital Library is included in all Membership Types listed above, but those interested in just the digital offerings are able to purchase this Membership a la carte via MyRec.

      Guest Passes

      Rec & P.E. Members are able to sponsor guests by purchasing a Guest Pass for them through MyRec. Guest Passes are valid for the duration of business on the day it is purchased. It provides access to Rec & P.E. facilities only; no programs or services are included. Guests must be accompanied by a Duke Rec & P.E. Member at all times while in the facilities.
