The holidays are just around the corner so here are some tips to help you successfully navigate holiday eating.
Don’t arrive hungry to your get together
Plan to eat a small meal or snack high in fiber and protein to help avoid overeating.
Offer to bring a dish to the party
This way you can be sure there will be something there that is a healthy choice for all to enjoy. AND, you will have control over the ingredients in the dish. See recipe suggestions below.
Think color
Aim to make your plate festive by including colorful fruits and vegetables.
Choose your splurges
Scan the buffet table and select one or two holiday favorites that you can’t get any other time of the year.
Be creative with your plate
Choose to use veggies with the dips instead of chips or crackers, choose flavored seltzers over soda or alcohol, select a fruit dessert choice rather than the cream-based choice, fill your plate with “tastes”.
Mingle and be MERRY
Enjoy time with family, friends, and co-workers rather than hovering over the buffet table!
Eat until you feel satisfied, NOT stuffed!
Eat slowly and check in for fullness cues…. You can always go back. If you do overindulge, don’t beat yourself up, but rather make your next meal healthy and add some exercise into your holiday routine
