Executive Director of Recreation & Physical Education

A member of the Duke Athletics staff since April of 2009, Felicia Tittle serves as the Executive Director of Recreation and Physical Education.  In this position, Tittle oversees Duke University programs for Aquatics, Group Fitness, Outdoor Adventures, Intramurals, Physical Education, Personal Training, Recreation Facilities, and Sport Clubs.

Growing up with a father in the U.S. Air Force, Tittle moved several times throughout her childhood, eventually settling in North Carolina.  Sports and music were essential and consistent aspects of her youth.  She played basketball throughout High School, College, and beyond, even starting a basketball league between Probation Parole and Correction Officers during her time in the Police Department as a Probation Parole Officer.

In 1997, she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Therapeutic Recreation from Winston-Salem State University.  She later received a master’s degree in Recreation and Leisure Service and Facilities Management from East Carolina University in 2003 and went on to complete her Doctorate in Organizational Leadership from Northeastern University in 2020.

Tittle’s experience in college recreation and athletics includes service at North Carolina Wesleyan College as a Graduate Assistant & Intramural Director, where she was inspired to continue forth with a career in the recreation field.  She was a Program Coordinator and Athletic Academic Coordinator at East Carolina University before joining St. Augustine's College staff as a Fitness Specialist & Assistant Women's Basketball Coach.  Tittle joined Duke University after serving as the Director of Campus Recreation at Florida Gulf Coast University from 2005 to 2009.

Due to Tittle’s impressive efforts, Duke Recreation and P.E. has grown into a central hub for students, faculty, and staff to experience a safe, inclusive environment by providing opportunities that support all types of movement, interests, and abilities.  In February of 2018, she was honored with a Samuel Dubois Cook Society Award, an honor presented by the Cook Society to individuals who help relations among people of all backgrounds at Duke University.

Tittle is passionate about creating an environment that promotes play, exercise, and mobility for students, faculty, and staff through community, healthy habits, and lifelong skills, allowing people to connect, grow, and succeed at Duke and beyond
