Managing Director of Recreation Facilities

Chris Policastro was born and raised in Toms River, N.J. With an early interest in athletics, Chris played soccer and basketball from elementary through high school with his lifelong teammate -his twin brother. Following in his father’s footsteps, he attended West Virginia University where he pursued a bachelor’s degree in Exercise Physiology. Beyond his studies, he enjoyed working out in the student rec center and playing intramural sports.

After earning his degree, Chris had the opportunity to attend graduate school at West Chester University in Pennsylvania, where he completed several internships in athletics and campus recreation. One of those internships, at the University of Pennsylvania’s Campus Recreation Center, ultimately turned into a full-time job as the Assistant Director of Fitness and Wellness. In his role, he enjoyed working with students and seeing them participate in the rec center’s various activities and programs. A few years later, he left Philadelphia and headed for the Bronx, N.Y. where he accepted the role of Director of Fitness, Wellness, and Recreation at Manhattan College. There, he oversaw the opening of a brand-new building and learned the operations of a campus recreation facility.

In 2018, Chris relocated to North Carolina with his wife, Stephanie, and daughters, Emerson and Loren, to join the Duke Rec & P.E. staff as Director of Facilities. Over the past several years, Chris has enjoyed working with the Duke Rec team to provide a space where students can be active and lead a healthy lifestyle. In his role as Managing Director, Chris manages the Fitness & Wellness, Facilities, and Aquatics teams. Outside of work, Chris loves working out, grilling, and spending time with his family.
