Trips & Workshops: The outdoor trips and workshops program offers a wide variety of land and water-based activities for the backcountry novice, the avid explorer, and everyone in between.
Trip Registration: To get more information or to register for Outdoor Adventures trips please come in person to the Climbing Wall in Wilson Recreation Center. Full trip registration fee is due at the time of registration. Payments accepted include cash, check, credit or FLEX.
Join Outdoor Adventures on National Public Lands Day and National Day of Service to participate in trailbuilding at Falls Lake. Registration includes transportation, instruction, equipment, and lunch.
This trip will allow you to build your rock climbing skills by heading outdoors! We will build on our weekly women’s climbing power hour and continue to build up your rock climbing community! Stand Up Paddle Boarding (SUP) combines elements of surfing and canoeing to create a new and fun way to play on the water. Join us as we explore the Eno River like you’ve never seen it before! We’ll spend the first part of the day teaching you the basics of paddling a SUP, and then the rest of the time will be spent paddling and enjoying the sunshine. Registration includes transportation, all equipment, instruction, and lunch.
Head to the beach to learn how to surf with Outdoor Adventures! The beginning of the day will start with a 1.5-hour surf lesson with a surf instructor, then you will be set free to catch some waves and hang ten. Enjoy the sand, sun, and sea! Spend Fall Break at the beautiful and scenic Cape Hatteras National Seashore. You will spend one day riding majestic horses on the beach. Another day will be spent paddling in the Alligator River National Wildlife Refuge, keep your eyes peeled for alligators! If you love excitement, challenge, and adventure, this is the trip for you! Take advantage of the warm weather and crisp whitewater rapids as we venture to the Haw River for a day of fun and thrill. All experience levels are welcome, and participants must attend one Kayak Skills Workshop prior to the trip. Registration includes transportation, equipment, lunch, and instruction.

With nearly three miles of trails and high scenic views, Occoneechee Mountain provides the perfect place for a day excursion! Join us while we hike, relax, and take in the breathtaking surroundings of the area. And what better time to do it than the start of fall, with the cool temperatures and changing colors! Registration includes transportation, all equipment, instruction, and lunch.
Get ready to explore the beautiful Eno River State Park right here in Durham! Take in the Fall colors, babbling creeks, the rushing river, and wildlife as you backpack through the park. You will feel accomplished when you arrive at camp carrying everything you need for the night. Intro to Backpacking Workshop will be offered before the trip but is not a requirement. Registration includes transportation, equipment, meals, and basic instruction.
Have some experience climbing in the gym and want to put your skills to work outdoors? Join Outdoor Adventures on a more advanced rock climbing adventure where we will spend a full day working on outdoor climbing skills. You must be belay certified and climb at least at a 5.8 level. A free Lead Climbing Workshop or Intro to Climbing Technique and Movement class is included prior to the trip! Registration includes transportation, equipment, instruction, and lunch.

Outdoor Programs reserves the right to cancel a program due to inclement weather, natural disasters, or extenuating circumstances. In the event a trip must be cancelled, a full trip refund will be provided.
