When COVID-19 effectively sent many community members home in March, the Duke Recreation & Physical Education facilities team quickly began thinking about what it would look like when campus recreation centers reopened.

In late July, while on their summer break, Duke Club Cycling riders launched a 12-hour bike marathon to support Duke Health’s COVID-19 Response Funds and local cycling organizations that advocate for cycling as an alternative and safer form of transportation.

“There are so many mental health benefits from being outside,” said Felicia Tittle, Executive Director of Recreation & Physical Education and one of the co-conveners of the Physical Activity and Movement area of Healthy Duke. “Think about all the things that get stimulated outside, your mind, all of your senses.”
