Rec & P.E. Membership

The Department of Recreation & Physical Education offers affordable memberships to individuals of the Duke Community. Memberships will be available to Duke students, faculty, staff, alumni and their spouses/families for Summer and Fall 2022. A Duke Recreation & Physical Education Membership provides access to recreation facilities and programs.

Membership Eligibility
  • Duke Undergraduate Students: All undergraduate students should have been assessed the recreation fee through their bursar account which grants access to recreation facilities and digital resources automatically.
  • Graduate Students: Graduate students should have been assessed the recreation fee through their bursar account which grants access to recreation facilities and digital resources automatically. If you do not have access, please confirm with the Bursar’s office that you have not, and will not be, assessed the recreation fee prior to purchasing a membership through the MyRec Portal.
  • Duke University and Duke Health Faculty & Staff: All are eligible, however, Payroll Deduction is not a payment option at this time.
  • Duke Alumni: Alumni are eligible to utilize their Duke Alumni Association credentials to purchase a membership through the MyRec Portal. See the information below for instructions.
  • Retirees: Retirees are eligible to purchase the Digital Membership through the MyRec Portal. In-person access is unable to be accommodated at this time.
  • Spouses & Family: Spouses and families of Duke Affiliates are eligible for a membership which can be purchased through the MyRec Portal. Please see the instructions below for how to purchase. Spouse and family memberships must coincide with the duration of the Duke Affiliate they are sponsored by.
  • Guests: Day passes are not available at this time. All individuals accessing Rec & P.E. facilities must be a member unless they are participating in a camp or recreation program that permits non-members.
DukeCard

The DukeCard Office is no longer issuing cards for anyone who is not faculty, staff or a currently enrolled student. To ensure you follow access protocols, please download the MyRec Mobile App to your smartphone. This app will provide you with a barcode that will be scanned upon entry to our recreational facilities. 

If you do not have a smartphone or are unable to download MyRec Mobile, please contact the Memberships Office (link to the Memberships inbox) for alternatives.

    • Provides access to Digital Resources only. The Digital Library Access does not provide access to recreation facilities and will not allow you to make a facility reservation.
    • If you purchase a monthly, semester or annual membership or have access as a student, you do not need to purchase access to the Digital Library.

    *Duke Recreation & Physical Education has a strict no cancellation, no refund policy. Please read through that policy and ensure that you fully understand your membership purchase before completing your purchase.

      How to Purchase Your Rec & P.E. Membership

      Please read all instructions below before proceeding with purchase. All membership purchases are done through the MyRec Web Portal.

      Faculty and Staff 
      1. Log onto the MyRec Portal using your NetID and password.
      2. Click 'Become a Member'.
      3. Select the membership you would like to purchase.
      4. Scroll below and next to the "Select Duration" click on the grey bar noting the duration of your membership. The bar will turn blue after your selection.
      5. Notice the starting date, end date, and price of membership.
        NOTE: Price may prorate for Semester or Annual memberships depending on date of purchase. Monthly Memberships do not prorate.
      6. Click ADD TO CART.
      7. Read and sign the Waivers.
        1. After reading the waiver, click on the grey area to open the Signature Box.
        2. Sign and click SAVE.
        3. Click SIGN NOW.
      8. Read and acknowledge the Fitness Warning and Assumption of Risk notice.
      9. Click Checkout to finalize the process and pay through Duke's eCommerce site.
      Alumni
      1. Visit the Duke Alumni website, click on 'Register/Sign In' button on the top right, and register to create a OneLink account. This OneLink account will provide you access to the MyRec Portal to purchase and register for Duke Rec & P.E. memberships, programs and services.
      2. Log onto the MyRec Portal with your newly established OneLink.
      3. Click 'Become a Member'.
      4. Select the membership you would like to purchase.
      5. Scroll below and next to the "Select Duration" click on the grey bar noting the duration of your membership. The bar will turn blue after your selection.
      6. Notice the starting date, end date, and price of membership.
        NOTE: Price may prorate for Semester or Annual memberships depending on date of purchase. Monthly Memberships do not prorate.
      7. Click ADD TO CART.
      8. Read and sign the Waivers.

      Spouses & Family

      The Duke University employee/enrolled student will need to first visit the OIT Sponsored Accounts website to register their spouse and/or dependents via the following steps:

      1. Once logged in, underneath “Guest (Affiliate) Accounts”, select the option “Request a new guest account for a non-Duke user."
        NOTE: You will need to submit a separate form for each spouse and/or family member.
      2. Select Sponsor: The Duke University employee/enrolled student will be the selected sponsor.
      3. Select Guest Account Type: Choose 'Spouse/Sponsor' or 'Child'.
      4. Select Guest Services: Check the box reading 'DukeCard'.
        NOTE: As noted above, spouses and dependents will use the MyRec Mobile App to access the facility as you will not be given a physical DukeCard.
      5. Select Card Type: Select 'University Default' from the drop-down menu.
      6. Department Name: 'Rec & P.E.'
      7. Card Payment Method: Select 'Sponsored Guest'.
      8. Account Details: Add the non-Duke email address of the spouse or family member the request is for.
      9. Account purpose: 'Recreation Center Access'.
      10. Will the guest be compensated directly by Duke?: Select 'No'.
      11. Do you intend for guests to be directly on site?: Select 'Yes'.
      12. Sponsorship Policies: Agree to terms and conditions.
      13. Attest.

      Once you have created sponsored accounts for each of your spouses and family members, visit the MyRec Portal to purchase memberships for yourself and your family via the following steps:

      1. Log into the MyRec Portal with your NetID and password.
      2. Select “Become a Member”.
      3. Choose the duration of membership you would like to purchase.
      4. Email the Memberships inbox to include each person’s Name, Last Name, Date of Birth, NetID, and email. This information will be given to the guest email address in the confirmation email following _____. The Coordinator of Member Services will manually add the Family Membership to the Duke-sponsored account.
      5. Download the MyRec Mobile app to login as you will not be given a physical Duke Identification Card.
        NOTE: If you or your dependent do not have a smartphone or are unable to download the MyRec Mobile App, reach out to the Memberships inbox.
