The Department of Recreation & Physical Education offers affordable Rec & PE Memberships to members of the Duke University community. This includes Students, Student Spouses, Alumni, Faculty, Staff, Retirees, and Visiting Scholars. Alumni, Faculty, and Staff may enroll spouses and children in a Rec & PE Membership once they have sponsored them for a DukeCard. Rec & PE Memberships include access to both Brodie Recreation Center and Wilson Recreation Center, including Taishoff Aquatics Pavilion, Central Pool, and the programs offered by Recreation & Physical Education.
All Rec & PE Memberships can be enrolled in at any time and Annual and Monthly Rec & PE Memberships are prorated based on the date of enrollment.
Duke Faculty and Staff who are current Rec & PE Members and have a legal dependent who is attending college at another institution are able to enroll their dependent(s) in a Summer Semester Rec & PE Membership or add them to a Family Annual Rec & PE Membership. The dependent must be under 26, have an active college ID card from their university, and be sponsored for a DukeCard via the OIT Guest Tool. Once approved, the Duke Employee and their college student can visit the DukeCard Office to purchase the DukeCard and Rec & PE Membership. The student must present their university identification at the time of purchase and the Duke employee must have an active Semester or Annual Rec & PE Membership in order for their dependent to enroll in a Rec & PE Membership.
Faculty, Staff, and Alumni are eligible to enroll in a Family Annual Rec & PE Membership, which includes two adults and up to two children ages 10-26. To enroll a spouse or child in the Membership they must first by sponsored for a DukeCard. Faculty and Staff may sponsor spouses and children through the OIT Guest Tool, and Alumni may sponsor spouses and children via the Alumni Association website. Once completed, spouses and children may visit the DukeCard Office with the Duke employee to purchase their DukeCard and may be added to the Membership. Anyone 18 and older must be present at the time of enrollment to sign the Rec & PE Membership Application. Children ages 10-15 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian while in a Recreation Center or at Central Pool. Families with more than two children may enroll additional children for a fee per child. Children under the age of 10 eligible for a Central Pool Family Rec & PE Membership. To receive a card for children under 10, receipts of Membership payment must be presented at Central Pool.
All Undergraduate students and Graduate students in their first three years pay for Rec & PE Memberships through Recreation Fees on their bursar account. Graduate and professional students continuing beyond three years of study receive a Rec & PE Membership. Students should check with the Bursar’s Office if they have questions regarding payment of a Rec & PE Membership.
DukeCard Offices are located at 012 Telecom Drive on West Campus or Duke Clinics, Red Zone.
Duke University Departments are able to purchase Department Sponsored Guest Passes for individuals visiting Duke University but who do not have a DukeCard, such as guest speakers. Departments will act as the sponsoring Rec & PE Member and be responsible for the guest’s behavior. The Guest Passes are $10 and allow one (1) visit to Brodie Recreation Center, Wilson Recreation Center, including Taishoff Aquatics Pavilion, or Central Pool. Parking is not included in the cost of a Rec & PE Membership. Parking is available in the lots around Brodie Recreation Center from 5pm to 7am and Wilson Recreation Center from 5pm to 7:30am on weekdays, as well as all day on the weekends with an active Duke Parking Permit or Night-Pass.
