Along with the new fall group fitness schedule, the Duke Fitness Team is offering a variety of events to welcome students back to Duke.
Students and faculty/staff members of the gym are encouraged to attend the Welcome Back Workouts in both the Wilson and Brodie Weight Rooms on Tuesday, September 4, Thursday, September 6 and Sunday, September 9 at 7:15 PM.
“The Welcome Back Workouts are circuit style workouts where you will do some challenging strength training work and keep your heart rate elevated with aerobic intervals,” says Fitness Director Mary Ann Dobbins. “It is the type of workout that is offered at CrossFit style gyms and fits with the current research that shows workouts that incorporate bouts of high intensity activity offer greater gains in both strength and aerobic capacity.”
The Welcome Back Workouts are free. The fitness counselor will meet the participants at the desk in the weight room.
Duke Fitness also offers two Open Houses to introduce users to TRX and Private Pilates Training.
The TRX Open House will take place on Thursday, August 30 at 6 PM at the TRX Station on the ground floor of the Wilson Recreation Center.
TRX instructor Lynn Donmoyer suggests, “Try out the TRX straps with me and learn why TRX, or suspension training, has become the most popular fitness trend across the country.”
The Private Pilates Open House is offered on Monday, September 10 at 6 PM in the Mind Body Studio of Brodie Recreation Center.
“Climb onto the REFORMER and see what Pilates on machines can do for your core strength and flexibility,” says Pilates Trainer Marie Sherr.
Any questions about these fitness programs or any of the other offerings from Duke Fitness can be directed to Mary Ann Dobbins.
